24 7 Line Drive Dudes of the Weekend: Week 5

Hitters

Trey Duffield (Texas Twelve Black)

Texas Twelve Black’s Trey Duffield made Melissa, TX look like Denver, CO with the way he was making balls fly out of the park this weekend. The 2022 Rice commit from Strake Jesuit (TX) has a very simple and repeatable bat-to-ball stroke with very quick hands, allowing him to smoke balls to all fields. The RHH looks primed to have an excellent senior year for Strake Jesuit and be an impact player at the next level.

Marshall Hale (Texas Twelve Black)

Texas Twelve Black’s Marshall Hale was a terror to face at the plate this weekend. The uncommitted 2022 from The Woodlands Christian Academy (TX) has a very physical frame with very strong hands allowing him to punish the ball anywhere on the field. The combination of his plus bat, versatility in the field with potential at catcher and CIF, as well as his excellent academics should have scouts drooling over this guy’s potential at a four-year program.

Jake Fults (Dallas Tigers Nicholson)

Dallas Tigers Nicholson’s Jake Fults did it all offensively this weekend. The uncommitted 2025 from Jesuit (TX) hit for both power and average and showcased a mature approach which got him on base 16 times in 21 plate appearances. He has very quick hands that allow him to terrorize pitches on the inside half of the plate. Once he reached base, he made pitchers pay by scoring 13 runs in 16 times on base. His plus bat and speed make him a very good MIF prospect and top of the lineup guy that colleges need to be on the lookout for.

Alex Wilburn (WF Bulls)

WF Buff’s Alex Wilburn made run producing and prevention look as easy as it gets this weekend at the 14U/15U Championships. The uncommitted 2024 from Ryder (TX) has a nice flat swing from the right side that produces consistent hard line drives from pole to pole. He is also a RHP that delivers from a low ¾ slot and hides it well behind his body to make hitters struggle reading spin. As a 2024, he still has plenty of time to develop into a very good two-way prospect with potential on both sides.

Cooper Ivison (Lubbock Baseball Academy Phillips)

Lubbock Baseball Academy Phillips’ Cooper Ivison was a standout this weekend for his performance at the plate. The uncommitted 2024 from Andrews (TX) has a very physical frame for his age that he uses to muscle balls with authority. His swing generates plenty of lift on the ball and he uses that strength to turn it into base knock after base knock. He will be a terror in the box for years to come.

Jordan Viars (D-BAT)

D-BAT’s Jordan Viars backed up his Division 1 pedigree with a monster performance at the plate this weekend in the DFW Showdown Satellite Series. The 2021 Arkansas signee from Reedy (TX) starts out low and into his legs while hitting which allows him to get everything he can out of his 6’4” frame. The left-handed hitter has elite bat speed and the ball just sounds different coming off his back. Viars is a legitimate five-tool player to keep in mind while on the big stage in the coming years.

Connor Clark (Texas Oilers 16U Hamblin)

Texas Oilers 16U Hamblin’s Connor Clark put on quite the performance this past weekend at the Five Tool Texas DFW Showdown Satellite Series. The uncommitted 2023 from Sherman (TX) racked up a number of extra-base hits including two big time home runs. The RHH has showcased some impressive pop all summer long and has showcased the ability to deliver when his team needs a clutch hit. Keep an eye on this one.

Justin Blancafor (TEST Baseball 2023)

TEST Baseball 2023’s Justin Blancafor was a hitting machine at the dish in the Five Tool Texas Houston event. The uncommitted 2023 from John Paul II (TX) racked up 10 base hits and showed off some series wheels with seven stolen bases. The RHH has a short, compact swing and is quiet in the box. Blancafor even showed the ability to hit for power and cracked two home runs. Look out for this one to continue putting up numbers this summer.

Finnegan Stewart (Canes OC 2024)

Canes OC 2024’s Finnegan Stewart 

put the team on his back in Underclass American Division Semifinals of the Five Tool California SoCal Summer Classic and really all weekend long. The uncommitted 2024 from Orange Lutheran (CA) belted a key home run, showed off his cannon of an arm and did not shy away from the moment. Big time player in this dude.

Owen Schoenvogal (Hooks 16U)

Hooks 16U’s Owen Schoenvogel was an extra-base hit machine at the Five Tool South Texas Alamo Classic. The uncommitted 2023 from Marion (TX) showed off some gap-to-gap power and drove the ball all over the field. The RHH does a great job getting extended at contact and impressed with his discipline at the dish. All around this dude had quite the weekend and is an intriguing prospect to keep tabs on over the next few summers.

Pitchers

Holt Gibson (Lubbock Baseball Academy)

Lubbock Baseball Academy’s Holt Gibson must be allergic to barrels the way he avoided them with ease in his outings this weekend. The uncommitted 2022 from Lubbock Cooper (TX) touched 90 MPH with the heater and showcased a sharp breaking ball on his way to getting 12 of 17 outs via the strikeout. The RHP derives a great deal of power from his legs, which allows him to get a high velo with a shorter reach back in his delivery. Gibson absolutely has the potential to be a solid piece in a rotation or bullpen in the college ranks.

Rhet Bleemel (United Baseball Club Nine Embry)

United Baseball Club Nine Embry’s Rhet Bleemel had very few blemishes in a dazzling outing this weekend. The uncommitted 2022 from Aubrey (TX) showcased a solid primary and secondary pitch with a fastball up to 85 MPH and a sweeping curve at 71 MPH that kept batters off-balanced all game. There is still plenty of room for growth with his smaller frame which should allow him to be successful at the next level.

Keever Vincent (Impact Baseball Club Worley)

Impact Baseball Club Worley’s Keever Vincent continued his great summer with a gem of an outing this weekend at the SBC Elite Invitational. The uncommitted 2022 from Keller (TX) had his fastball-curveball working very well, allowing him to pick up the W and strike out ten in six innings of work. The RHP is crafty with his delivery and college scouts need to watch out for this dude the rest of the way.

Aiden Sims (5 Star Performance 2024 National)

5 Star Performance 2024 National’s Aiden Sims was one hit away from a no-no in his outing at the Bregman World Series this weekend. The uncommitted 2024 from Forney (TX) was up to 86 MPH with his fastball and can manipulate his curveball to either be a sharp breaker or slow and loopy to keep batters guessing. He has an over-the-top delivery but still gets good arm-side run on the fastball and controls the curveball well from that arm slot. He will be a great pitching prospect to watch in the coming years.

Hudson Boring (UBC 15U Powell)

UBC 15U Powell’s Hudson Boring was anything but boring to watch on the mound this week at the Bregman World Series. The uncommitted 2024 from McKinney Boyd (TX) comes at hitters from a sidewinder delivery that allows him to be dominant without top-end velocity. The RHP has a fastball that sits in the low 80’s with sink and a curveball to give him a pair of pitches that tunnel very nicely. He is certainly a pitching prospect to keep an eye on.

Dylan Belyea (Canes Southwest 14U Stapel)

Canes Southwest 14U Stapel’s Dylan Belyea was a workhorse for his squad this weekend at the 14U/15U Championships. The uncommitted 2025 from Frisco Memorial (TX) showcased a solid fastball-curveball mix that allowed him to pick up multiple wins on the tournament. The RHP was up to 82 MPH with the fastball from a delivery with a shorter reach back which gets pitches onto batters quickly. He is a younger prospect that has plenty of time to develop into a good-looking prospect although he has already proven he can be dominant at this level.

Isaac Thornton (DBI Blacksox Shiner)

DBI Blacksox Shiner’s Isaac Thornton proved to be a workhorse on the bump this past weekend at the Five Tool Texas DFW Showdown Satellite Series. The uncommitted 2022 from Marcus (TX) was dominant in a whopping 10 innings of work and showed swing and miss stuff to the tune of 19 strikeouts. The RHP stands tall on the mound and works downhill. Keep an eye on this one as he looks to continue turning out outings like this in his senior season this spring.

Sam Simmons (Houston Bengals)

Houston Bengals’ Sam Simmons proved to be a true ace on the mound in the Five Tool Texas Houston event. The uncommitted 2022 from Manvel was not afraid to attack hitters early in counts and pitched to contact all game long. The RHP utilized an impressive array of pitchers to keep hitters off balance and allow only one hit. This dude can be an arm college coaches rely on.

Michael Smosna (Marucci Elite Texas Little)

Marucci Elite Texas Little’s Michael Smosna was electric in the Five Tool Texas DFW Showdown Satellite Series. The uncommitted 2022 from Lubbock Cooper (TX) commanded the zone all game long and utilized pinpoint control to put hitters away. The RHP tallied 10 strikeouts and really mowed hitters down in two outings. Impressive stuff from this one.

Jake Neely (TEST Baseball 2024)

TEST Baseball 2024’s Jake Neely was un-hittable on Thursday night in the Five Tool Texas Houston event. The uncommitted 2024 from Clark (TX) worked the corners all night long and utilized an over the top delivery to stymie hitters. The RHP has lots of room to grow and add velocity over the next few summers and has the chance to continue impressing on the summer showcase circuit.

Zakery Johnson (Shiner Stars)

Shiner Stars’ Zakery Johnson was dominant on the bump in the Five Tool South Texas Alamo Classic. The uncommitted 2022 from St. Paul (TX) allowed only one hit and ran his fastball up to 86 MPH in his outing on Friday night. The RHP really let it eat and kept hitters on their toes. This is an intriguing prospect that has the potential to make a college program happy. Get on this one!
